FRSC Redeploys 162 Senior Officers Nationwide

By Saminu Ibrahim

(SINL NIGERIA) The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has secured the conviction of a traffic offender who abducted and assaulted one of its operatives during a routine patrol along the Kubwa Expressway in Abuja.

The incident, which occurred on April 30, 2026, at about 9:00 a.m., involved personnel of the RS 7.19 Dutse Alhaji Unit Command conducting a special patrol operation near Gegu Filling Station,
a statement on Wednesday signed by Osondu Ohaeri, Deputy Corps Commander
Corps Public Education Officer said.

According to the Corps, officers had flagged down a Toyota Hilux vehicle with registration number YAB 931 AE for routine traffic enforcement when the situation escalated.

“Rather than comply with lawful directives, the driver reportedly became violent, assaulting an FRSC Marshal and forcibly abducting the officer in the process.

“The situation was swiftly brought under control through the intervention of the patrol team, supported by police personnel attached to the operation. The suspect was immediately arrested and taken to the FCDA Police Station in Kubwa for further investigation, while the vehicle involved was impounded.

“Following diligent prosecution, the offender was arraigned before a competent court and subsequently convicted. The court ordered the offender to either pay a fine of ₦72,000 or serve a three-month prison sentence. In addition, the court awarded ₦50,000 as compensation to the assaulted FRSC officer”.

Reacting to the development, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, commended the professionalism and restraint displayed by the patrol team despite the provocation.

He described attacks on traffic enforcement personnel as a serious threat to public safety and the rule of law.

Mohammed reiterated the Corps’ commitment to enforcing traffic regulations with firmness and respect for human rights, while warning motorists against acts of obstruction, assault, or intimidation of law enforcement officers on duty.

He also called on members of the public to cooperate with enforcement agencies, noting that compliance with traffic laws is essential to ensuring road safety and protecting lives.

Meanwhile, the FRSC assured Nigerians of its continued collaboration with security agencies and the judiciary to ensure that offenders are held accountable and justice is served.
