Corps member, Adekoya Rehabilitates School Toilet, Septic Tanks in Lagos

By Mike Odiakose, Abuja

A Youth Corps member, Engineer Sultan-Othman Adekoya, has
single-handedly facilitated and executed the rehabilitation of toilets and septic tanks at Obele Nursery and Primary School, Surulere, Lagos.

The rehabilitated toilets and septic tanks were on Tuesday commissioned and handed over to the Surulere Local Government Education Authority (LGEA).

Guests at the ceremony applauded the selflessness of the young engineer who opted to leave a legacy during his service year.

He was said to have been concerned about the State of the primary school toilets and subsequently took it upon himself to single-handedly facilitate and execute the rehabilitation of the facilities and improve infrastructure in the school.

The commissioning was performed by the Education Secretary of Surulere LGEA, Mrs. Salami Idiat Temilade, alongside the Head of NYSC CDS, NYSC Surulere, Mrs. Chioma Ohomakandu.

In her address, the Education Secretary expressed profound appreciation to the corps member for his outstanding and selfless contribution.

She encouraged him to continue in his commendable efforts, noting that good deeds are always rewarded by God.

She also used the occasion to inspire the pupils, urging them to emulate such noble gestures and even surpass them in the future, especially as they grow to become alumni of the school.

She further offered prayers for his continued success and assured all present that Surulere LGEA would always remember and appreciate his impactful contribution.

Dignitaries present at the event included former Education Secretary, Mushin, Princess Olufemi Akinlude; HRM&A, Surulere LGEA, Miss. Akanbi Adejoke Saidat; retired Headteacher, Obele Primary School, Mrs. Nwogu and LG1 Inspector, Surulere, Mrs. Adenike Motunrayo.

Others are representative of the Chairman, Surulere Local Government Area (Supervisory Councillor for Youth), Michael Adewole; Chief Imam, Alhaji Jamiu Akinjobi; Project Officer, Surulere LGEA, Hundeyin Adebayo and PTA Chairman, Mr. Nwokocha, among others

The event marked another milestone in community-driven development and collaboration between the NYSC scheme and the education sector in Surulere.
