(SINL NIGERIA) The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening regional cooperation and collective security in the fight against terrorism and cross-border threats in the Lake Chad Basin.
Musa made the declaration during his recent official visit to N’Djamena, Republic of Chad, where he participated in the meeting of Ministers of Defence of Troop Contributing Countries (TCCs) of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) under the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC).
The high-level meeting brought together Defence Ministers and representatives from member states, including Chad, Cameroon, Nigeria, and Benin, alongside senior military officers, intelligence chiefs, and key stakeholders involved in regional security operations.
The meeting provided a strategic platform to review ongoing military operations and enhance coordinated efforts aimed at degrading terrorist networks and stabilising the Lake Chad Basin region.
During the deliberations, the Ministers considered detailed reports presented by Chiefs of Defence Staff and heads of intelligence and security agencies. The reports focused on the operational effectiveness of the MNJTF as well as emerging security dynamics across the region.
Discussions also featured frank exchanges on critical challenges confronting the force, including troop deployment, funding constraints, and the evolving nature of security threats. These issues were examined during a closed-door session of the meeting.
General Musa however commended the government and people of Chad for hosting the meeting and acknowledged the country’s leadership role within the MNJTF framework.
The participating Ministers also expressed appreciation to the President of Chad and Chairman of the LCBC Summit for his continued support in advancing regional peace and security initiatives.
SINL Nigeria Online reports that the meeting underscored the shared resolve of member states to deepen collaboration and sustain momentum in the collective fight against insurgency and insecurity in the Lake Chad Basin.
