The National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barrister Murtala Aliyu Kankia, has congratulated the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, on her conferment with the traditional title, “Mairamar Kasar Hausa I,” meaning First Daughter of Hausa Land.
The title was bestowed on Musawa by the Emir of Daura, Dr Umar Faruk Umar, in recognition of her growing public profile and contribution to the promotion of Hausa culture and heritage.
Kankia, in a congratulatory message, said the traditional honour was a significant recognition of Musawa’s role in projecting the cultural identity and heritage of the Hausa people.
He said he had always believed that the minister would attain a position that would provide her with an opportunity to represent and promote Hausa heritage at a significant level.
Kankia said “I know one day she will earn a position representing Hausa land and its heritage,”.
Continuing, the APC chieftain described the conferment as particularly significant given Musawa’s current position as Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, where she oversees key sectors covering Nigeria’s arts, cultural heritage, tourism and creative industries.
Kankia also recalled that Musawa had previously been described by some admirers as the “Queen Amina of our time,” in reference to the legendary Hausa warrior queen, Amina of Zazzau.
According to him, the description reflected the expectations surrounding Musawa’s public role and her capacity to promote the cultural heritage and identity of the Hausa people.
He urged the minister to regard the traditional title not only as a personal honour but also as a responsibility to the people and heritage she has been called upon to represent.
Kankia expressed confidence that Musawa would continue to use her office to advance Nigeria’s cultural heritage while strengthening the contribution of the creative and tourism sectors to national development.
The recognition comes amid the Federal Government’s efforts to position the arts, culture, tourism and creative economy as key drivers of economic diversification, job creation and national identity.
