The Nigerian Navy has intensified its crackdown on illegal refining activities in Rivers State, disrupting two illegal refining sites and recovering approximately 33,000 litres of products suspected to be illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).
SINL Nigeria Online reports that the operation, conducted by the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) PATHFINDER on September 6, 2026, took place in Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area of the state.
According to the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the operation uncovered eight dugout pits, sacks and reservoirs believed to be associated with the illegal refining activities.
He said the illegal refining sites and recovered products were handled in accordance with established procedures.
Folorunsho said the latest operation was part of sustained efforts by the Navy to prevent operators of illegal refineries from re-establishing their activities in the area.
He noted that the Navy had earlier disrupted two illegal refining sites in the area on August 28, adding that continued pressure on the networks was limiting their ability to revive and sustain illicit refining operations.
Meanwhile, no arrest was made during the latest operation, as the suspected operators reportedly fled before the arrival of the naval team.
