(SINL NIGERIA) Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have intensified offensive operations against terrorists and bandits in Sokoto and Katsina States, neutralising suspected terrorists and recovering weapons as well as rustled livestock.
The military disclosed that troops successfully repelled an attempted attack by members of the Lakurawa Terrorist Group (LTG) on a Nigerian Immigration Service facility at Ruwa Wiri Village in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Nigerian Army and Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, troops responded swiftly to a distress call and engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle.
He said two terrorists were neutralised during the encounter, while others fled due to the superior firepower of the troops.
Osoba added that troops subsequently conducted exploitation operations in the area and recovered two AK-47 rifles, ammunition and a motorcycle abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
“In a separate operation, troops deployed in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, while on a fighting patrol, encountered terrorists moving with herds of rustled livestock at Danya Bakwai Settlement,” the statement said.
The troops reportedly engaged the terrorists, forcing them to abandon 62 rustled livestock, which were later recovered and handed over to their rightful owners at the palace of the Daddara District Head in Jibia LGA.
The military reaffirmed that Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains committed to eradicating terrorism and banditry across the region.
It also urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to security agencies to support ongoing operations.
