The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that the 100MVA TR4 transformer at the Apo 132/33kV Transmission Substation in Abuja tripped in the early hours of Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
According to a statement issued by TCN management, preliminary findings indicate that the incident was caused by oil spillage on the red-phase high-voltage (HV) bushing of the transformer.
The development has disrupted bulk power supply to four 33kV feeders connected to the transformer, namely H31, H33, H35 and H37, affecting customers supplied by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
TCN said its maintenance crew had commenced a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the tripping and facilitate the necessary repairs.
The company assured affected customers that its engineers were working to restore the transformer and normal bulk power supply as quickly as possible.
“TCN regrets the inconvenience this may cause Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) customers supplied from the affected feeders and assures that our engineers are doing everything possible to ensure a quick restoration of bulk power supply through the affected transformer,” the statement said.
