The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has commenced a two-week vacation outside Nigeria after an intensive first year in office.
The vacation, according to a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Information Strategy, Abimbola Tooki, is aimed at allowing the APC chairman to rest, rejuvenate and reflect on the responsibilities ahead of the ruling party.
Tooki said Yilwatda had, since assuming office, devoted himself to strengthening the APC through extensive consultations, travels and engagements with members of the National Working Committee (NWC), governors, National Assembly members, state party structures, elected officials and other stakeholders.
He said the party, under Yilwatda’s leadership, had successfully organised and concluded its National Convention, strengthened its internal structures and conducted primary elections at various levels ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the statement, the achievements have further consolidated the APC’s position as Nigeria’s leading political party and one of Africa’s major political organisations.
The vacation, the statement stressed, should not be interpreted as a disengagement from party affairs, noting that it would provide the chairman an opportunity to recharge and sharpen his strategic thinking ahead of the 2027 elections.
Yilwatda is also expected to use the period to reflect on the next phase of the party’s development and put finishing touches to plans for the forthcoming NWC retreat.
The retreat is expected to enable the party’s leadership to review its performance, identify emerging challenges and develop strategies for the months ahead.
The statement assured that the chairman’s temporary absence from the country would not affect the operations of the party, as the NWC would continue to discharge its responsibilities in line with the APC constitution and established procedures.
Yilwatda is expected to return to Nigeria at the end of the two-week vacation and resume his official engagements with renewed energy and focus.
