(SINL NIGERIA) President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed sadness over the death of publisher of The Eagle Online, Dotun Oladipo, describing his passing as a painful loss to Nigeria’s media industry and the nation.
Oladipo, aged 56, was a former Political Editor of The Punch newspaper before founding The Eagle Online, where he continued to contribute to the growth of digital journalism in Nigeria.
In a condolence message, signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on Wednesday, President Tinubu acknowledged Oladipo’s years of dedicated service to journalism, particularly his contributions to political reporting and efforts to provide Nigerians with credible information through traditional and digital media platforms.
The President said the deceased’s career underscored the important role of journalists in strengthening democracy by keeping citizens informed, holding public officials accountable and providing platforms for robust public discourse.
Tinubu also commended Oladipo’s passion for journalism and his contribution to the development of Nigeria’s digital media space through The Eagle Online.
“Dotun Oladipo’s death at the age of 56 is a painful loss to the Nigerian media community and to our nation. He was a committed journalist who devoted significant years of his life to informing the public and contributing to the development of our democracy,” the President said.
He added that Oladipo’s contributions to political journalism and digital media would not be forgotten.
President Tinubu extended his condolences to Oladipo’s family, colleagues in the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) and friends, praying that God would grant the deceased eternal rest and give his loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
