The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has declared Force Majeure on the 132kV Birnin Kebbi–Niamey transmission line following the collapse of three transmission towers in Kebbi State.
The company, in a statement on Friday, said the incident occurred on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, when the transmission line tripped at about 5:38pm.
According to TCN, a trial reclosure was attempted at 6:03pm, but the line tripped again immediately.
Following the development, TCN said its linesmen embarked on a fault-finding patrol and discovered that towers T109, T110 and T111 had collapsed at Chibike village.
The company attributed the collapse to heavy rainfall and windstorm experienced in the area.
TCN said the incident had disrupted bulk power transmission to Niamey through the affected line.
It, however, assured that it had mobilised personnel and resources to the affected location to commence rehabilitation of the collapsed towers.
The company added that it was deploying all necessary resources to ensure the line is restored to service as quickly as possible.
“TCN regrets the inconvenience this may cause to our customers in Niamey and assures that every effort is being made to restore normal supply promptly,” the statement said.
