The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the unavailability of all 33kV outgoing feeders at its 132/33kV substations in Keffi and Akwanga, Nasarawa State, following the collapse of three transmission towers along the Karu-Keffi-Akwanga 132kV line corridor.
The affected towers, identified as T78, T79 and T80, collapsed during rainy and windy conditions on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
In a statement by TCN management on Thursday, the company said the 132kV Karu-Keffi-Akwanga Single Circuit Transmission Line tripped at about 4:06pm on Wednesday through overcurrent relay protection.
According to the company, investigations conducted after the trip confirmed that three transmission towers had collapsed, prompting TCN to immediately isolate the affected section for safety reasons.
“Consequently, all 33kV outgoing feeders at the Keffi and Akwanga Transmission Substations are presently unavailable. No load can therefore be nominated on the affected feeders on the interim,” the statement said.
TCN said its engineers were already on site to assess the extent of the damage and determine the materials and other requirements needed to commence restoration work.
The company however expressed regret over the development, assuring affected electricity consumers that efforts were being made to complete the necessary repairs as quickly as possible and restore bulk power supply.
Additionally, TCN said it would continue to provide updates on the restoration exercise as work progresses.
