The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, has pledged the full support of the Service towards achieving Nigeria’s ambition of building a $1 trillion economy.
Adeniyi made the commitment on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, while delivering a keynote address at the New Nigeria Festival held in Abuja.
He said the $1 trillion economic target was achievable if strategies and plans developed by the government were effectively implemented and translated into measurable outcomes.
According to him, the NCS has moved beyond policy discussions to practical measures aimed at supporting the country’s economic transformation.
He cited the Service’s ongoing modernisation reforms, including the deployment of B’Odogwu, the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) programme and the Advance Ruling mechanism, as initiatives designed to facilitate legitimate trade, improve predictability and strengthen revenue generation.
“Execution is nothing if it is not concrete. We have to move from ideas to action and ensure that whatever we plan translates into results. That is how we can begin to see the kind of transformation we are talking about,” Adeniyi said.
The Customs boss stressed that achieving the $1 trillion economy could not be the sole responsibility of government agencies, noting that it required the collective commitment of institutions, businesses and citizens.
He said the NCS, given its responsibilities in revenue collection, trade facilitation and border management, was strategically positioned to contribute to Nigeria’s economic transformation.
Adeniyi therefore called for a shift from rhetoric to implementation, urging institutions and citizens to take ownership of their responsibilities and convert national plans into practical and measurable results.
