(SINL NIGERIA) The Headquarters, Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA (HQ JTF NW OPFY), on Wednesday April 29, 2026, hosted a delegation from the Air Force War College (AFWC) as part of its national study tour to the Joint Area of Operations.
The delegation, led by the Commandant of the College, Air Vice Marshal Gambo Mbaka, was received by the Theatre Commander of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Warrah Idris.
During the visit, the team was briefed on the operational activities and strategic efforts of the Joint Task Force in addressing security challenges across the North West region.
In his remarks, Major General Idris welcomed the delegation and commended the Air Force War College for its role in training competent and resilient mid-level commanders capable of effectively deploying air power in support of military operations nationwide.
He emphasized the importance of enhanced collaboration among the various military war colleges, advocating for deliberate exchanges of directing staff and officers to strengthen jointness and operational effectiveness.
The Theatre Commander encouraged participants to actively engage during the session by asking critical questions, noting that such interactions would deepen their understanding of joint operational environments.
He also expressed appreciation to the College for selecting the Theatre Command and Zamfara State as part of the study tour, describing the visit as an opportunity for firsthand exposure to ongoing operations in the region.
Earlier, Air Vice Marshal Mbaka expressed gratitude for the warm reception and described the Air Force War College as a premier institution responsible for training operational-level officers, including those from the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, and allied countries.
He noted that participants of Course 12, which commenced in January, have undergone extensive training in operational art, joint planning, and the application of air power.
He explained that the study tour is a key component of the course, designed to broaden participants’ perspectives on the role of air power in supporting civil authority and national development.
The Commandant also acknowledged the critical role of Operation FANSAN YAMMA in combating terrorism, banditry, and other forms of armed criminality in the North West.
He highlighted the importance of integrating land, air, and other security components in achieving operational success and noted that such synergy offers valuable lessons in joint operations, leadership, and inter-agency cooperation.
The delegation comprised four faculty members and 15 participants, including 13 Nigerian Air Force officers, one Nigerian Navy officer, and one officer from the Ghanaian Air Force.
The visit featured an interactive session, signing of the visitors’ register, a group photograph, and a reception hosted in honour of the delegation, during which souvenirs were presented to the Commandant and members of his team.
