(SINL NIGERIA) Former Deputy Minority Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abdel-Majid Adesegun Adekoya, has withdrawn his senatorial ambition and declared his intention to contest again for the House of Representatives seat representing Ijebu North/Ijebu East/Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency.
The decision, according to the former lawmaker, followed what he described as overwhelming calls from constituents and key stakeholders across the three local government areas urging him to return to the Green Chamber.
He explained that the move came after extensive consultations with party leaders, traditional rulers, youth groups, women associations, and other stakeholders within the constituency.
Adekoya emphasised that he decided to shelve his senatorial aspiration in order to continue what he termed “direct and impactful representation” at the grassroots level.
The former lawmaker represented Ijebu North, Ijebu East, and Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives from 2015 to 2023.
Speaking on the development, Adekoya said his decision was driven purely by the wishes of the people who appealed to him to return to the House of Representatives and continue advocating for their interests in Abuja.
“I have listened to my people. I have heard their call. I chose to drop the senatorial ambition because the House of Representatives is where I can serve you directly and deliver the most immediate results for Ijebu North, Ijebu East, and Ogun Waterside.
“We started something together, and it is time to finish it and do more,” he said.
