(SINL NIGERIA) The Ministry of Defence has welcomed the conferment of an Honorary Fellowship on the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), by the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS), describing it as a testament to his exemplary leadership and service to the nation.
The prestigious award was presented to the Minister during a ceremony held on May 4, 2026, at the Ministry’s headquarters, Ship House, in Abuja.
According to the NIS, the honour was bestowed in recognition of General Musa’s outstanding leadership, dedication, and significant contributions to national security in his role as Minister of Defence.
The institute disclosed that the ceremony was initially scheduled for December 2025 but was rescheduled to an earlier date due to pressing service exigencies, ensuring timely recognition of the Minister’s exceptional performance.
It further noted that the conferment marks only the second time in its history that such a distinguished honour has been awarded, underscoring the rarity and significance of the recognition.
In its reaction, the Ministry of Defence described the award as a reflection of General Musa’s unwavering commitment, professionalism, and the collective efforts of the Armed Forces of Nigeria in safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity and promoting national development.
The Ministry also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with professional bodies like the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, acknowledging their critical role in national growth and development.
The Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, one of the country’s oldest professional bodies, traces its roots to 1934 when it was established as the Licensed Surveyors Association under the leadership of nationalist Herbert Heelas Macaulay. It later evolved into the Land Surveyors Association of Nigeria in 1960 before adopting its current name.
