The Super Eagles have been eliminated from the 2026 World Cup qualifiers after a penalty shootout defeat to Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The 2026 World Cup will be hosted by Canada, US and Mexico.
DR Congo eliminated the Super Eagles in a highly contested African play-offs final on Sunday in Rabat Morocco.
The game ended 1-1 after normal and extra time. But during penalties, the DRC defeated the Super Eagles 3-4 to pick Africa’s sole ticket for the intercontinental play-offs slated for March 2026.
Recall, Nigeria also did not qualify for the 2022 world cup held in Qatar.
