(SINL NIGERIA) President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the elimination of a senior Islamic State (IS) leader, Abu-Bilal Al-Manuki, also known as Abu-Mainok, during a joint counterterrorism operation carried out by Nigerian and United States forces in the Lake Chad Basin.
In a statement on Friday, the President described the overnight operation as a major breakthrough in the ongoing fight against terrorism and a clear demonstration of effective security collaboration between Nigeria and the United States.
According to the statement, the operation was conducted by the Nigerian Armed Forces in close coordination with the Armed Forces of the United States, targeting the terrorist leader’s compound in the Lake Chad Basin.
“Early assessments confirm the elimination of the wanted IS senior leader, Abu-Bilal Al-Manuki, along with several of his lieutenants,” the President stated.
Tinubu praised the professionalism, courage, and commitment of the military personnel involved in the operation, noting that the successful strike dealt a significant blow to the ranks of the Islamic State operating within the region.
The President also expressed appreciation to the United States Government for its continued support in advancing shared security objectives between both nations.
“Nigeria appreciates this partnership with the United States in advancing our shared security objectives. I extend my sincere gratitude to President Trump for his leadership and unwavering support in this effort,” Tinubu said.
He further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to intensifying military offensives against terrorist groups and dismantling all terror enclaves across the country.
