The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Kano Region, has attributed the ongoing power outage affecting parts of Kano Metropolis to an earth-fault trip on the 132kV Kumbotso–Dan Agundi Line 1 during heavy rainfall and strong winds.
According to a statement by TCN Management on Thursday, the incident occurred at about 10:05 p.m. on Monday, September 22, 2026, prompting the immediate isolation of the affected transmission line to allow maintenance personnel to conduct a detailed inspection.
The company said its maintenance crew completed a patrol of the line on Tuesday, September 23, and identified damage at two separate locations between Towers T707 and T708.
The inspection revealed a tilted cross-arm and a snapped conductor. TCN said the damaged cross-arm must first be removed and reinstalled before the required repairs can be completed.
To reduce the impact of the outage on electricity consumers and commercial areas within Kano Metropolis, the transmission company said it had successfully transferred allocated loads from the 33kV feeders at the 132kV Dan Agundi Transmission Substation to other available 132kV substations within the franchise area of the Kano Electricity Distribution Company.
TCN said repair works are ongoing and that efforts are being made to restore normal bulk electricity supply as soon as possible.
The company however apologised to affected consumers for the inconvenience caused by the forced outage and assured the public that its maintenance teams are working to complete the repairs and restore supply.
