The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a three-hour power interruption in parts of Abuja on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, to enable urgent maintenance at its 330/132kV Gwagwalada Transmission Substation.

In a statement, TCN said the maintenance exercise would run from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and involve work on the 33kV, 6MVA earthing reactor at the substation.

The company explained that the exercise would temporarily prevent the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) from off-taking electricity to customers in several areas.

Affected areas include Aso Villa, Asokoro, African Medical Centre, Kabusa, EFAB Estate, Apo Resettlement, Zone E Extension and Trademoore, as well as adjoining communities.

TCN said the maintenance was necessary to ensure the reliability and safety of the transmission infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the company apologised to electricity customers in the affected areas for the inconvenience caused by the exercise.
