The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a six-hour power outage in parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Niger State on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, to enable engineers carry out annual maintenance at the Katampe 1 Transmission Substation.
In a statement issued on Monday, TCN said the maintenance exercise would take place between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at its 132/33kV Katampe 1 Transmission Substation.
According to the company, the exercise is aimed at carrying out annual preventive maintenance on the 132kV Katampe–Gwarinpa Transmission Line 1 bay switchgear and associated equipment.
TCN said the planned outage would affect the ability of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to supply electricity to customers in several areas.
The affected locations include parts of Dawaki, Dutse Alhaji, Gwarinpa, Kubwa, Arab Road, Bwari, Mopol Barracks, Jiwa and environs, as well as Suleja Township, FCT College of Education, Field Base, Madalla, Zuba and surrounding communities.
The transmission company apologised to electricity customers in the affected areas for the inconvenience the temporary power disruption may cause.
TCN urged affected customers to bear with the situation, saying the maintenance work is being undertaken to improve the reliability of electricity transmission infrastructure.
