(SINL NIGERIA) The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of NNPC Limited, has donated and commissioned a state-of-the-art 1.5 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system at the National Orthopaedic Hospital (NOH), Dala, Kano State, as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery across Nigeria.
SINL NIgeria Online reports that the advanced diagnostic equipment is expected to significantly improve the hospital’s capacity to diagnose and treat orthopaedic, neurological, trauma, musculoskeletal, and gynaecological conditions.
Prior to the intervention, many patients requiring MRI services faced challenges such as travelling long distances, lengthy waiting periods, and delays in accessing care due to the limited availability and high cost of advanced diagnostic facilities.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony on Thursday, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., represented by the Managing Director of NNPC Foundation, Mrs. Emmanuella Arukwe, said the donation reflects the company’s commitment to supporting national healthcare development through strategic social investments.
She noted that NNPC Ltd. remains focused on implementing impactful and sustainable interventions that create measurable value for communities across the country.
According to her, the MRI project comes at a critical time when Nigeria’s healthcare sector continues to face challenges related to infrastructure deficits, equipment shortages, and increasing demand for specialized medical services.
Also speaking, the Executive Vice President, Business Services, NNPC Ltd., Mrs. Sophia Mbakwe, represented by the Executive Director, Programme Management, NNPC Foundation, Mrs. Rose Okonkwo, said the company remains committed to improving the well-being of Nigerians beyond its core business operations.
She stated that the intervention demonstrates NNPC Ltd.’s dedication to delivering scalable and sustainable social impact initiatives, particularly for underserved and vulnerable populations.
Okonkwo added that the MRI facility would enhance healthcare delivery not only for residents of Kano State and the North-West region but also for patients from across Nigeria who rely on the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala, for specialized medical care.
Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, commended the NNPC Foundation for the donation, describing it as a major milestone that would improve access to early and accurate diagnosis, leading to better patient outcomes.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Isa Nurudeen, also expressed appreciation to NNPC Ltd., noting that the MRI system would have a transformative impact on the hospital’s operations and service delivery.
