(SINL NIGERIA) The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has commissioned a block of 20 one-bedroom staff accommodation built by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) in Nyanya, Abuja, as part of efforts to improve the welfare of military personnel.
The project, according to the Ministry, aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu aimed at addressing accommodation shortages and enhancing the welfare of members of the Armed Forces.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Matawalle described decent housing as a critical component of personnel welfare, stressing that quality accommodation boosts morale, operational efficiency and commitment to duty.
He said “Accommodation remains one of the most critical needs of our personnel. A comfortable home is not a luxury but a necessity. It provides peace of mind, enhances morale, and improves efficiency and dedication to duty,”.
He commended the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Lt. Gen. Emmanuel Undiandeye, for initiating the project, describing it as a significant achievement that reflects the agency’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel.
Matawalle also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his sustained support to the Armed Forces and for prioritising the welfare and operational effectiveness of troops.
As the supervising minister of the Defence Intelligence Agency, he reaffirmed the Federal Ministry of Defence’s commitment to supporting the agency in achieving its national security mandate.
The minister however urged beneficiaries of the new accommodation to ensure proper maintenance of the facility to guarantee its durability and continued service.
Following the commissioning, Matawalle formally unveiled the housing project by cutting the ceremonial tape and inspected the newly remodelled facility.
Earlier, the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Lt. Gen. Undiandeye, thanked the minister for personally commissioning the project, describing his presence as a demonstration of the government’s commitment to the welfare of DIA personnel.
He also conveyed the agency’s appreciation to President Tinubu for his continued support and reaffirmed the loyalty and dedication of the Defence Intelligence Agency’s management and personnel to the service of Nigeria.
The ceremony was attended by the Coordinator of the Defence Intelligence Agency Officers’ Wives Association, Mrs. Jane Undiandeye, directors of the agency, senior military and civilian personnel, regimental sergeant majors, soldiers and other staff of the agency.
