The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), in collaboration with Image Merchants Promotion Limited (IMPR) and the Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC), has won two prestigious 2026 International Public Relations Association (IPRA) Golden World Awards (GWA) in Athens, Greece.
The awards were presented in the Artificial Intelligence in Crisis Management and Publication categories, recognising the organisations’ innovative approach to crisis communication and the application of emerging technologies.
The award-winning project is the Crisis Communication Hub (CCHub), a national framework developed from empirical research on artificial intelligence and crisis management, with support from NITDA.
The initiative is designed to strengthen Nigeria’s capacity to respond to communication crises through the use of artificial intelligence, social listening and coordinated stakeholder engagement.
According to the organisers, the project focuses on smart AI governance by deploying AI tools for crisis communication and proactive social listening, while also addressing the spread of misinformation, fake news, deepfakes and other digital threats to public trust.
The framework further seeks to promote coordinated crisis response by bringing relevant stakeholders together to respond swiftly and strategically to communication emergencies across the country.
The awards were formally received at the iconic Hotel Grande Bretagne in Athens by Hajiya Hadiza Umar, who represented NITDA, alongside Professor Yau Sule of IMPR.
The recognition underscores NITDA’s efforts to promote digital literacy, responsible and ethical artificial intelligence deployment, as well as innovative communication strategies in Nigeria.
