The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a seven-hour power interruption in parts of Kogi and Edo states as it carries out annual preventive maintenance on its Ajaokuta Transmission Substation.
TCN, in a statement signed by its management on Monday, said the maintenance exercise is scheduled for Tuesday, September 15, 2026, from 9am to 4pm.
According to the company, its technical crew will carry out preventive maintenance on the 162MVA, 330/132kV power transformer, associated switchgear and other ancillary equipment at the 330/132kV Ajaokuta Transmission Substation.
The exercise will affect electricity supply to several communities and industrial customers served by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).
TCN said AEDC would be unable to off-take electricity to customers in Ekirin, Omuo, Ibillo, Akoko, Ogala, Ikare, Magongo, Okene Town, Ayere, Kabba and environs during the maintenance period.
Similarly, BEDC customers in Okpella Town, BUA Cement Company, West African Fertilizer Company, Dibeks Milling Company, Edestein Company, Freedom Group Company, Ososo, Uluoke, Iyora, Apana, Okpekpe, Arigidi, Ikare Town, Lampese, Igara, Oka and surrounding communities will experience the disruption.
TCN said electricity supply would be restored to all affected areas immediately after the completion of the maintenance work.
The transmission company apologised to affected customers for the inconvenience, describing the exercise as a planned maintenance activity necessary to ensure the reliability of the transmission network.
It also appealed for the understanding and cooperation of electricity consumers in the affected areas.
