The House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions has adjourned until September 30, 2026, further consideration of a petition by law graduates of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) over issues affecting their progression into the legal profession.
The Chairman of the committee, Hon. Dr. Anthony Nwogu, directed all parties involved in the matter to ensure that all relevant correspondence and responses were duly filed before the next sitting.
Nwogu described the petition as crucial to a large number of people across the country, stressing that the committee would take a decision after a thorough consideration of all submissions.
He urged the parties to complete all outstanding filings to enable members of the committee to study the documents before reaching a decision.
The petition, numbered 902, was filed by law graduates of NOUN against the university, the Nigerian Law School and the Council for Legal Education.
The petitioners appeared before the committee led by the President of NOUN Law Graduates, Dr. Adeniyi Oladele.
Other representatives of the graduates included the Vice-President, Nora John; Public Relations Officer, Chibueze Kenneth Oboji; and a member of the group, Dr. Oke H. Ofo.
The petition centres on an inter-agency agreement involving NOUN, the Nigerian Law School and the Council for Legal Education, with the graduates seeking resolution of issues surrounding their progression into the legal profession.
The committee consequently directed all parties to complete their filings ahead of the next hearing and adjourned the matter until September 30, 2026, for further proceedings.
