Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Retail Limited has commissioned its first Smart Self-Service Station on Bill Clinton Drive, Abuja, offering customers a technology-driven fuelling and mobility experience.
The new facility, developed in partnership with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), combines conventional fuel services with electric vehicle charging, LPG, vehicle maintenance and lifestyle offerings.
The 24-hour self-service station allows customers to dispense fuel independently, select the exact quantity required and make payments at any time of the day or night.
Speaking at the commissioning, NNPC Ltd Executive Vice President, Downstream, Mumuni Dagazau, described the development as another milestone in the evolution of NNPC Retail.
Dagazau said the Smart Station demonstrated the company’s commitment to innovation, convenience, operational efficiency and improved customer experience.
He also commended the NIS for its sustained cooperation, describing the partnership as an example of the institutional collaboration needed to deliver modern energy infrastructure across Nigeria.
The Managing Director of NNPC Retail, Huub Stokman, said the facility was designed to respond to changing consumer preferences in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.
According to him, consumers increasingly demand quality products at competitive prices, prompt service, convenient payment options, loyalty rewards and access to alternative energy solutions such as electric vehicle charging and CNG.
“More than ever, we need to meet the needs of Nigerian consumers. They want quality products at the right price, prompt and friendly service, more value-added offerings and convenient payment options,” Stokman said.
He added that the Smart Station reflected the company’s efforts to provide more sustainable and technology-enabled services, particularly for younger consumers.
Stokman acknowledged the contributions of the NIS, Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Africa Motor Works, technology partners, contractors and other stakeholders to the project.
He reaffirmed NNPC Retail’s commitment to expanding the Smart Station model across the country and strengthening partnerships with public and private institutions.
The Comptroller General of the NIS, Kemi Nandap, represented by the Deputy Comptroller General, Finance and Accounts, Saidu Bashir Daura, congratulated NNPC on the commissioning.
Nandap described the facility as a model for promoting investment in sustainable energy infrastructure and innovative transportation solutions.
The station has 16 Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) pumps and two Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) pumps, with storage capacity of 180,000 litres of PMS and 5,000 litres of AGO.
It also has an electric vehicle charging facility with an 86-point capacity, deployed in partnership with Africa Motor Works, alongside an LPG dispensing facility, modern lubricant service bay and fully automated car wash.
Provision has also been made for the future installation of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) infrastructure.
The facility is powered entirely by more than 200 kilowatts of installed solar capacity and includes space for quick-service restaurants, a coffee shop and convenience store.
With the combination of fuelling, alternative energy, vehicle services and lifestyle facilities, NNPC Retail said the station is designed to operate as a modern mobility and lifestyle destination rather than a conventional filling station.
