The Nigerian Navy has commissioned a newly constructed healthcare facility in Abwor/Oyis, Lankan District, Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State, as part of efforts to improve access to essential healthcare services and promote community development.

The facility, commissioned on October 29, 2026, was delivered under the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Special Intervention Quick Impact Project Scheme.

The healthcare centre comprises male and female wards, a maternity unit, a nurses’ station, a labour room and other supporting facilities.

The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, who was the Special Guest of Honour at the ceremony, was represented by the Chief of Administration, Naval Headquarters, Rear Admiral Jonathan Mamman.

Speaking on behalf of the CNS, Mamman reaffirmed the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to Civil-Military Cooperation through interventions aimed at addressing critical community needs and promoting social development.

He said the project demonstrated the Navy’s determination to strengthen relations with host communities while supporting access to essential healthcare services.

In his goodwill message, the Executive Chairman of Pankshin Local Government Council commended the project facilitator, Rear Admiral Nan-Manle Fredrick Damtong, for his contribution to the development of his community, the local government area and Plateau State.

He described the healthcare facility as a landmark project that would benefit present and future generations, attributing its delivery to Damtong’s love for his community and commitment to national development.

The council chairman also expressed appreciation to the Chief of the Naval Staff for extending the intervention to the community, noting that the maternity unit would particularly improve access to maternal healthcare services.

He assured the Nigerian Navy that the community would take responsibility for the effective utilisation and maintenance of the facility to ensure its sustainability.

In his remarks, Damtong appreciated the CNS for supporting the project and urged beneficiaries to take ownership of the facility by ensuring its proper use, maintenance and sustainability.

The ceremony was attended by government officials from Pankshin Local Government Area, the District Head, the Mishkom Mupun of Mupun Chiefdom, His Royal Highness Da Yusuf Walle Fwangbring, and other dignitaries.

Following the commissioning, the CNS representative and other guests toured the facility.

The project underscores the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to community development through targeted interventions aimed at improving public welfare, strengthening civil-military relations and delivering essential social services to Nigerians.
