Five-Hour Power Outage Looms in Bida, Niger Communities

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a five-hour power outage in Bida and surrounding communities in Niger State on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, to enable it carry out annual preventive maintenance at its Bida Transmission Substation.

In a statement, TCN said the maintenance exercise, scheduled to run from 8am to 1pm, would cover a 60MVA, 132/33kV transformer and associated switchgear at the substation.

The company said the exercise would affect the ability of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to supply electricity to customers in several communities.

Affected areas include Bida Town, Army Barracks, Agaie, Doko, Baro, Zago, Emi Rani, Bussu, Laugba Goshigi, Lafiyagi Essa, Amgulu, Mansantali, Agaie Town, Low Cost and Masaga, as well as surrounding villages.

TCN explained that the planned maintenance was necessary to ensure the reliability and performance of the transmission infrastructure.

It assured residents that electricity supply would be restored to the affected areas immediately after the completion of the maintenance exercise.

The transmission company apologized to electricity customers for the inconvenience caused by the temporary interruption.
