The Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa (retd.), has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s defence capabilities through innovation, technology and strategic partnerships.
Musa stated this on Tuesday at a Dell Technologies programme themed “Innovate with Data,” held at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.
The minister, who was represented by his Senior Special Adviser on Technology and Innovation, Air Vice Marshal Bulus, said the Ministry of Defence was pursuing a three-pillar strategy focused on enhancing joint operational synergy, improving the welfare and morale of Armed Forces personnel, and promoting intelligence-driven, technology-enabled defence.
He described the third pillar as critical to preparing Nigeria’s defence sector for emerging security threats, noting that modern security challenges required the effective integration of technology, intelligence and innovation.
According to him, the ministry is taking deliberate steps to harness emerging technologies through strategic partnerships with relevant stakeholders.
He disclosed that the ministry was taking the lead in organising a two-day technology workshop in collaboration with Dell Technologies to explore innovative solutions for strengthening the country’s defence architecture.
Musa said the partnership reflected the ministry’s commitment to working with credible private-sector organisations with proven global expertise and a demonstrated commitment to local content development.
He emphasised that local participation and indigenous capacity building were essential to achieving sustainable growth in Nigeria’s defence industry.
The minister expressed optimism that the knowledge gained, partnerships established and outcomes of the workshop would significantly strengthen the ministry’s capabilities and advance Nigeria’s national security objectives.
The event featured a presentation by Dell Technologies highlighting its technological solutions and potential areas of collaboration with the Ministry of Defence.
The presentation outlined the company’s integrated, one-stop-shop and end-to-end technology platforms, which it said could enable the ministry to improve operational efficiency and respond more swiftly to mission requirements.
