(SINL NIGERIA) Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, have repelled an attack by suspected ISWAP terrorists on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Magumeri, Borno State.
The troops killed several insurgents and recovered weapons and ammunition.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the attack occurred in the early hours of May 7, 2026, when the terrorists attempted to infiltrate the military base under the cover of poor visibility.
The statement disclosed that although the attackers recorded minor breaches in an isolated section of the camp, troops fought gallantly and decisively contained the assault, neutralising scores of the terrorists during the fierce exchange.
“Further exploitation of the general area revealed extensive blood trails, body drags and the recovery of terrorist corpses, confirming the heavy casualties inflicted on the attackers during the failed assault,” the statement added.
“Troops also recovered a cache of arms and ammunition abandoned by the fleeing insurgents, including PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns, AK-47 rifles and magazines”.
The military, however, confirmed that two soldiers lost their lives during the encounter, while an officer and other wounded personnel are currently receiving medical treatment and are in stable condition.
The statement added that some military equipment and temporary structures within the camp were damaged by fire during the intense battle.
“Operation HADIN KAI said troops are currently conducting exploitation operations in the area to consolidate gains from the successful operation, while further battle damage assessment is ongoing”.
The military high command commended the troops for their resilience and bravery in confronting the terrorists, urging them to sustain the operational momentum in denying insurgents freedom of action across the North-East theatre.
