Troops of the Joint Task Force, North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have overrun a Lakurawa terrorists’ enclave in Waria Forest, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, neutralising several terrorists and recovering weapons and five motorcycles.
SINL Nigeria Online reports that the operation was conducted on October 15, 2026, during a clearance mission aimed at dismantling terrorist hideouts and restricting their movements in the area.
According to a statement by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops of Sector 2 advanced through identified terrorist enclaves around Alela, Bilange and Kandam villages towards Waria Forest, where they made contact with the terrorists.
Danja said the troops overwhelmed the terrorists with superior firepower during the ensuing firefight, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee deeper into the forest.
He added that the troops pursued the fleeing terrorists, neutralising some of them in the process.
Further exploitation of the area led to the destruction of the terrorists’ camps and life-support structures, while weapons and five motorcycles were recovered.
The statement said troops had maintained a strong operational presence in the area, sustaining clearance and domination operations to deny terrorists freedom of action and improve security in surrounding communities.
It added that the operation underscored the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantling terrorist enclaves, denying criminal elements safe havens and restoring lasting peace and security across its joint operations area.
The Theatre Command commended the troops for their courage, resilience and sustained operational efforts.
It also urged members of the public to support ongoing military operations by providing timely and credible information about suspicious movements and activities in their communities.
