The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, has received the prestigious Times Heroes Award in recognition of his contributions to public service and national development.
The award was presented to Adeniyi on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at the THISDAY Dome in Abuja as part of activities marking the centenary celebration of the Daily Times newspaper.
The event brought together prominent personalities from government, business, traditional institutions and other sectors to honour individuals and organisations contributing to Nigeria’s growth and development.
Speaking after receiving the award, Adeniyi described the recognition as an encouragement to do more in the service of the nation.
“It’s very good when you do something, and you are recognised; this should be an inspiration to us to do much better,” he said.
The Customs boss dedicated the award to the officers and men of the NCS, commending them for their dedication and sacrifices in protecting the nation and facilitating legitimate trade.
Adeniyi said the Service under his leadership remained committed to improving revenue generation, strengthening trade facilitation and accelerating Nigeria’s implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement.
He also called for greater compliance by members of the public, noting that improved compliance would enable the Customs Service to discharge its mandate more effectively.
The Comptroller-General expressed appreciation to compliant citizens and businesses, saying their cooperation was essential to raising standards and improving the efficiency of public service.
