The National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barrister Murtala Aliyu Kankia, has launched a statewide women’s mobilisation drive in Katsina State ahead of the 2027 general elections, SINL Nigeria Online reports.
Specifically, he has reportedly secured endorsements for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda and other party candidates.
The initiative also seeks to strengthen women’s participation in party administration and decision-making through an organised grassroots network across the state’s local government areas.
The endorsement was associated with a gathering at the Government Day Secondary School Assembly Hall, where participants declared support for Tinubu’s re-election bid, Radda and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
As part of efforts to establish the proposed network, Kankia convened a meeting with local government coordinators at his residence in Kankia, directing them to constitute inclusive structures by selecting executive members in their respective areas.
The APC National Legal Adviser disclosed that the coordinators had submitted complete lists of nominees, marking an initial step towards establishing the statewide women’s network.
However, the number of coordinators, nominees and women expected to participate in the initiative was not disclosed.
Kankia emphasised that women’s contributions to the party should go beyond election campaigns and voter mobilisation, insisting that they deserved recognition as political partners and a stronger voice in decisions affecting the APC.
The proposed network is expected to provide a coordinated platform for grassroots mobilisation, community engagement and the promotion of the party’s candidates ahead of the 2027 polls.
By placing local government coordinators at the centre of the initiative, Kankia is seeking to build an organisational structure capable of mobilising support across communities in Katsina State.
The initiative combines the APC’s electoral preparations with a call for greater inclusion of women in party affairs. However, the specific mechanisms for ensuring their representation in decision-making have yet to be disclosed.
The success of the mobilisation drive will depend on how effectively the submitted nominees’ lists are translated into functioning structures across the state and whether the promised inclusion results in a meaningful role for women in party leadership and policy decisions.
