The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has extended its petrol sales discount at retail stations nationwide until October 31, 2026, as part of efforts to cushion the impact of rising fuel prices on Nigerians.

The company said the initiative, initially introduced on October 1 to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, would continue in response to elevated global crude oil prices arising from the conflict in the Middle East.

In a statement on Friday, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Limited, Andy Odeh, said the initiative was designed to provide direct relief to customers amid rising domestic petrol prices.

Odeh said the extension followed a statement by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, on October 8, 2026, reaffirming the company’s commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s efforts to ease the economic burden on households and businesses.

He noted that higher petrol prices had affected the cost of transportation and business operations, adding that the company understood the pressure on families and livelihoods.

According to him, the discount is a customer relief initiative and should not be interpreted as a return to petroleum subsidy.

“ This initiative applies to NNPC Retail outlets and does not establish a uniform national pump price or alter the market-based pricing framework applicable to petroleum products,” the statement said.

The company explained that the initiative aligned with the Federal Government’s efforts to provide practical relief to Nigerians amid heightened uncertainty in the global oil market.

NNPC Limited also urged the public to disregard claims suggesting that the discount represented a restoration of fuel subsidy.

The company reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring reliable petroleum product supply and maintaining collaboration with the government and other stakeholders to ease the impact of rising fuel prices.

It added that its priority remained providing practical support to customers while maintaining commercially responsible operations.

NNPC Limited further pledged to continue communicating clearly about its products, prices and customer initiatives to enable Nigerians to make informed purchasing decisions.
