The Nigerian Navy has destroyed an illegal refining site discovered at Promise Land Community, along Nanabie Creek in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.
SINL Nigeria Online reports that the operation was carried out by the Forward Operating Base (FOB) BONNY under Operation DELTA SENTINEL.
The illegal refining site was discovered on September 30, 2026, following credible intelligence. “It comprised a large cooking pot and three large storage tanks suspected to have been used for illegal refining activities”.
“On October 2, the Commanding Officer, FOB BONNY, Captain SMC Umeh, led a team to the location, where the illegal refining equipment and associated infrastructure were destroyed in line with established regulations”.
The Navy said the operation was aimed at disrupting illegal refining activities and denying criminal operators the infrastructure required to process and store stolen crude oil.
It added that the latest intervention followed recent operations by FOB BONNY, which uncovered substantial quantities of suspected stolen crude oil and other illegal refining infrastructure within its area of operations.
According to the Navy, surveillance and monitoring activities have been intensified across the area to prevent the establishment or reactivation of illegal refining sites and curb crude oil theft and related activities.
