The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commenced emergency rehabilitation of vandalised Towers J4 and N9 to N12 along the Ikot Abasi–Eket 132kV double-circuit transmission line.
The rehabilitation followed recent acts of vandalism that affected critical components of the transmission infrastructure.
During an inspection of the ongoing works on Friday, September 25, 2026, the Assistant General Manager, Transmission, Port Harcourt Region, Dr Ubani Raymond, who represented the Regional Manager, Engr Nasir Bello, said the inspection was aimed at ensuring strict compliance with engineering specifications and addressing any issues requiring immediate attention.
Raymond said significant progress had been recorded, noting that the vandalised towers had been completely dismantled while their bases had been solidly recast.
He urged residents of Ikot Abasi to remain vigilant and protect critical power infrastructure in their communities against vandals and other criminal elements.
Also speaking, the Head of Lines, Port Harcourt Transmission Region, Engr Azuh Lucky, stressed the need for rigorous monitoring to ensure compliance with engineering standards and guarantee the quality of the rehabilitation works.
Azuh commended the TCN management for engaging two contractors to accelerate the execution of the project, but noted that the difficult terrain and persistent rainfall had affected the pace of work.
Similarly, the Principal Manager, Uyo Work Centre, Engr Eguaikhide Clement, expressed satisfaction with the progress of the rehabilitation, commending the contractors for their commitment and understanding of the urgency of completing the project.
